At Clay Courts, you can play tennis at its best!


If you play tennis, then you must have knowledge about different courts. There are many types of the surfaces in tennis like hard, clay, grass, and carpet. You can play on any surface, but each of them has their own characteristics. One can find outdoor or indoor tennis courts in CT or any city, easily.
In all these types, clay courts are slower ones but offer highest bounce. While playing tennis on it, the ball will bounce more, but at a slower speed. This gives players time to react and reach the ball. It is also very easy to play on clay. It is soft, and reduces the impact of the shot, which directly cuts down the stress you put on your joints.



This surface is usually made of crushed shale, brick, or stone. You can notice that there are many colors available in these. Different colors means different kind of material is used for the surface. Mainly there are six types of clay courts:
  1. Red – It is generally made of crushed or compressed brick that gives it the color red. Some other crushed materials cover the bricks. It does not soak water easily and very hard to dry. It takes them two to three days to dry that is why they are very rare. Grand Slam French Open is played on the red court.
  2. Green – These are also known as Har-Tru. They are harder and faster than the red ones but they are made of basalt. These are also covered with other particles. Women's Tennis Association (WTA) matches are played on it. It dries quicker.
  3. Blue – These courts are new compare to the others. This concept was launched in 2012 Madrid Masters Tournament by owner Ion Ţiriac. Roger Federer and Serena Williams won that year in their respective areas and became the first players to win a tournament on Blue Clay.
  4. Maroon – The U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships is played on this one, which is a part of Association of Tennis Professionals. They are similar to the green ones.
  5. Grey – This type of surface is made of natural material and is embedded with small crushed stones to keep the grip. It needs to be watered often because it can dry very easily. It will turn into powder if not kept moist.
  6. Yellow – This surface is very similar to the red one and there is only one event is played on it. Copa Sevilla, which is an ATP Challenger Tour, played in Seville, Spain.
